Assistant Professor Department of Computer Engineering, Modeling, Electronics and Systems (DIMES) University of Calabria, Italy
BIOGRAPHY::
Dr. Dipanwita Thakur is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, Modeling, Electronics, and Systems (DIMES) at University of Calabria since July 2023. She is a working group member of the European Cooperation in Science & Technology in the domain of Optimal Security approaches and their impact on the user, as well as an Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Working Group member of IEEE Future Networks. Recently, she joined as a visiting research scholar in the Department of Computer Science, at Missouri University of Science & Technology, USA. The primary responsibility is to conduct research and develop innovative optimization strategies and algorithms that enhance energy efficiency in federated learning systems, with a focus on minimizing energy consumption during local model training, quantifying energy usage, and evaluating the trade-offs between energy efficiency, model accuracy, convergence speed, and robustness.
Prior to this, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Banasthali University, Rajasthan, for 15 years. She also worked as a Technical Support Engineer in TechMahindra, India, and Project Trainee at the Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC), India.
She received her Ph.D. from West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, India. Her primary research specializes in Green Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a focus on federated learning,Smart healthcare using Machine Learning, specifically Performance Evaluation of Human Activity Recognition Systems. Her work aims to make AI more energy-efficient and sustainable by developing decentralized models that reduce the environmental impact of data processing. With several years of experience in smart healthcare, She has concentrated on human activity recognition, leveraging AI to enhance healthcare applications through non-invasive and privacy-preserving techniques. Her interdisciplinary approach combines cutting-edge AI methodologies with practical healthcare solutions, striving to create impactful innovations that support sustainable and effective patient care. She is the author of many scholarly research papers, including reputed journal papers, in the above-mentioned areas.
